(2/19/09) Quick Facts about NZ We’ve Learned So Far:

1. Everything is on the left: driving, where you walk on the sidewalk…..
2. Prostitution is legal! (We won’t go there).
3. Light switches go down to go on, not up.
4. They have a NZ’s Got Talent show, just like America, except this one DOES have talent and the judges are nice.
5. There’s no tipping. None. Not even for prostitutes! (ok, we really don’t know that).
6. They have dog food meat in the refrigerated section of the grocery store. It looks like huge Jimmy Dean sausages. Buyer beware!
7. The weather is reported as rain or “fine,” not shine.

Tomorrow we will be going to a department Powhiri at 10:30 am. This is a traditional welcoming by the Maori culture. That will be followed by a BBQ. Then, we’ve been invited to a cocktail party at a colleague’s home. If we get there by 7:00pm, we will be welcomed by bagpipers! Uhhhh, we’re not in Tallahassee any more!
